Bowlhead was created after I received the site address embroided on a hat one year for Christmas. Sounds unusual but this was the nickname that my brother and I had adopted for each other. That and Bullethead. It came from somewhere back in our childhood where he was given a very dodgy haircut and I was too cruel to just let it pass without comment!
In 2001 a series of events lead to this site.
Firstly “Bowlhead" at the age of 35 jetset off to Bali In August.
Then on 11th September 2001 he just died in his sleep. “Cause unknown” is written on his coronary report. Nowadays with technology and all the progressive research methods it is rare to have an inconclusive result but for him – there was no reason – it was obviously just time.
In December 2001 on Christmas day I was given the embroided hat from “Bowls” wife - bowlhead.com.au. He had purchased it while in Bali as a Christmas gift. In the end it ended up being a souvenir and his way of getting the last “slang” in!
In 2002 I undertook some research into starting a franchise bearing that name. We took up the idea of selling a food system that served anything that could be served in a bowl. The term “wazzism” was developed among some of Bowlheads friends …This was a positive uplifting phrase that Waz himself made up or borrowed and repeated so often that others quoted him as the author! Therefore we decided that the piece that would identify our brand was a lid on the container that said “bowlhead says….” And then at the base of the bowl once the food had been consumed, a catchy phrase (including some of the “wazzisms”) would be written. We had intended to sell such things as soup and salads and yoghurt and potentially any other product that fitted the season and the bowl.
The underlying goal was eventually to brand the name, create a profit and then set up a foundation through the franchise that reflected Bowlheads nature - something that would support young, adventurous, entrepreneurs with a dream and a creative idea. We would provide a “financial launching pad” that would act as a "scaffold" until their dream was realised and they were self sufficient.
While the franchise was researched and then deemed too greater risk for the return, the concept of creating some kind of foundation that reflects Bowlheads spirit still remains. For this reason this site has become a holding bay and directory for associated businesses….but only in the short term…as I believe that at the right time the Bowlhead Foundation will be birthed. |
